Eric Bailly

Sat Jun 04, 2016 9:20 pm

'Manchester United are in talks with Villarreal to sign Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly, according to Sky sources.

Sky Sports News HQ understands United are not the only club trying to sign Bailly, with Manchester City, Barcelona, and Paris St Germain all also in talks with the La Liga club.

Bailly is not believed to have a release clause in his contract, which means all four clubs are essentially in a bidding war for the player. That has driven his transfer fee towards the region of £30m. All four clubs are also competing to offer the best financial package to the player.'

Even if we do sign him I think an experienced CB is what is needed for our back line.

Stats and analysis of Bailly:

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... ed-to-know

Bottom line:

Good one on one, strong and fast, not so good at passing.

Lots of cards early on last season, no more cards in the later games

The "not so good at passing" could become at issue if he is teamed up with Smalling.

I guess we will just have to wait and see if it's an issue,

Bailly is good.. I remember him keeping Ronaldo/Benxema etc quiet in a LaLiga game last season, but other than that I dont remember him being especially outstanding/world class... would be a good signing but if it comes to a bidding war, move on!

Apparently he can play all the way across the back four, which is more than handy:

If he will be part of the African Cup of Nations we will need coverage for when he is gone during the season. I veteran may still be on the cards.

Not sure where you got your info, but its not done.

Personnally I would never sign an African based player. Losing one of your players in the heart of the season every other year for some pointless tournament is not worth it.
