If Valencia had developed even rudimentary skills with his left foot he would be un-markable. As it is defenders overplay him to the outside and try to force him to cut back or halt his runs; but he still has more than enough speed and skills to go by most defenders in the league. Under Van Gaal I do not think he was given the option of going forward, our goal was to keep possession at the expense of attacking. When we play against team who pack their defensive area there is no space to use his speed and that takes away a big part of his game but he still gets decent crosses in. Admittedly he is a winger who has learned to play RB so there is nothing natural about his defending or his positioning but his recovery speed help to make upfor that.100%Re Valencia and his pace
Remember when he won us that pen at anfield that van persie put away to win the match? He was clocked as the fastest premiership player at that point. That was the fastest a player moved in the whole season. A couple of years after his leg break. Sorry for the statistic but to say he never regained his pace after that is factually wrong. He has adapted as a fullback and he does it well for me. We can't rely on him there for much longer as his pace is going into decline due to his age but for the moment he's doing absaloutly fine for my money
Another 45 like those two minute and I'll be a happy lad.Well that was en exciting 2 minutes.
