Wrong choice. He shouldn't and most likely won't play every game, therefore he shouldn't be captain. I do love him as a player, for the record.

It feels like we haven't had a proper captain in a decade, I find this extremely frustration TBH.

I don't think we have another captain in the side really. He's a stopgap captain.

Brilliant player, perhaps hints that he isn't being replaced this season though.

The lack of alternative is alarming

Makes you wonder who will be match day captain. Hopefully he makes an official vice so we avoid situations of Smalling and Fellaini leading the team out every week

Roy keane is a gem you discover once in a while and tbh I don't think who wear the arm band is as important as it used to be. Carrick has experience, respected so I guess it was a right choice.

Looking at the bright side, this give others chances to stand up and be counted on the pitch. We'll see if leaders emerge from there.

I don't agree. Regardless of the captaincy, Carrick will not play every week. So this does not influence any signing.

I get the impression that Mourinho is more concerned with having leaders on the pitch rather than a traditional captain. Carricks present on the training ground is where his skills as a captain will be important.
I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Football. Bloody hell.

I really wanted Herrera to be our next captain. He loves the club, talks highly of it, respects our history and always says the right things in terms motivating the team.

Carrick was more of a safe option for Mourinho and, with him not playing every game, I expect Valencia to receive the armband most games as a result.
“Bill, how would you like to be manager of the best team in the country?”
And Shankly said: “Why? Is Matt Busby packing it in?”

I suspect that the lack of choices for captain takes you so much deeper than you realistically consider

I listen to what Marcus says about a captain not being that important
Really.FFS.LMAO
A captain is not that important as long as he has respect
What is tis constant respect thing?
The respect in a professional game of football is earned not by being a nice lad and saying the right things
It is earned by deeds on the pitch
When the chips are down who is going to drag the team up by the balls?
Will Smalling pull the defence together?
Will Jones?Will Shaw?
Jose has already told everybody last season that he thought they were lacking courage by not playing through pain
Valencia does not speak English
Darmian is not a defensive captain and the two new centre halves haven't been around long enough

In midfield you have Pogba(too young and so far too incositent),Mata and Herrara (two nice human beings that are not sure to start togeter)
Mikki is not a captain(he hasn't been getting 90 minutes and not vocal enough)
Fellaini has done the job a few times which shows you the leadership required

Up front you have Lukaku who is not a captain and Rashford and Martial and Lingard

Am i missing an obvious leader in this squad?
I don't think so!!

This has come about because we have insisted as buying for our key players 12/18 month shirt sellers like Schweinsteiger,Falcao,Zlatan etc
Captains and leaders don't sell shirts in the Glazers eyes
Very short sighted
Remember Robson,Bruce,Keane,Scholes,Gary Neville

But as Marcus says captains are not important
Ask Arsenal how they have done without Tony Adams or Liverpool since Graeme Souness

OK

so we don't like the truth

Try this
We looked very very exciting, truly exciting, really exciting(i can't get any more positive than Donald Trump i am afraid
Any mention that we won't be challenging for the league is fake news
Where is the evidence that we won't be challenging for the league and the champions league
It is the job of all the United fans to get behind the team and the owners
You have been waiting for 7 years to get this far so make your point and get this sorted

Remember who won last night
It was not LA Galaxy
It was United by a distance

If you've got any kids or grandkids make sure you take them to as many games as you can and tell them all about the history of this club
You don't need to go back earlier than 1992 as there was no football before Sky
You need to carry the legend on
Sort of like Kunta Kinte

It's OK Barry
You take the grandkids and get them all excited and enjoy doing so
That is the right thing to do
But in your minds eye YOU remember Duncan Edwards and Eddie Colma and Tommy Taylor and Dennis Viollet and Law,Best Charlton and Stiles and Crerand and Robson and Schmeichel and Keane ,Scholes and Giggs and Wazza
Then take a long last look at Carrick

When you look at the rest of the squad tell yourself that next season will be a great season try not to cry

We can resurrect this post at Xmas and see how close we are
