Surprised both Martial and Rashford are on the bench, it might also answer the question on whether we play 3 CMs or now we have Matic whether Pogba can partner him and allow a player like Mata to start, think Jose will stick with the 4-3-3 if it goes well today.

Our backline is looking very, very shaky. Midfield onwards we look good though.

Too bad can't see how Bailly and Lindelof play together.

Ronaldo, in his final game for Real before returning home purposefully misses a free kick to send a message.

Agree

Matic makes a big difference to this side. Even see now that if Fellaini comes on, he can be deployed upfront as Matic covers the back

Lukaku showing the positions he will take up in the box

Bailley to also come back

And Hopefully we see Martial or Rashford over Lindgard (who can play cup games). How the hell does he get a start over all our other players, especially since he missed alot of the pre-season games. This "Big match-Final-Wembley" status must be put to bed now

Madrid a team who has payed together and won two consecutive CL's - cant fault their quality, but are aren't far behind. Abit hesitant and defensive for the middle part f the game, but played well when we played with more comfort and confidence

Unlike the two posts above me, I didn't see too many positives. We are an OK team that may do well in some domestic cups, but we are light years away from top quality world class teams such as Bayern, RM, Barsa etc.
I don't see us winning any major competition with this team next season.
Not sure what the solution is. We keep buying a lot of players but style and results don't change much.. Seems like most of our targets are overrated grossly overpriced pseudo stars that no other top team is interested in.

Comparing this team from 3 years ago, its positive. We are building a good team>
maybe this is your reaction to the loss, but we showed we are miles ahead than the Moyes/LVG era

Not many teams stand up to the top 3 atm, but everyone is trying and we look like we have taken a big a step this year. Those top 3 dont play in our League and the other EPL teams are not close to them either, so the major competition that is the league is certainly within reach

I think the respect we gave them gave the impression of a much bigger gulf in quality than there actually was. I mean sitting Martial and Rashford? Tbh for large periods of the game it was embarrassing.

By the way, Madrid's team without all the big 3 looks a lot more balanced and fluid. Zidane is building something there, make no mistake

We must remember this is a real Madrid side who have won the Champions League 3 times in the last 4 seasons. We also played with 3 new signings and without 3 centre halves who I would personally pick ahead of the 2 centre halves starting.
For portions of the game we couldn't get the ball, granted. But look at the bigger picture. We went 2 down and looked like all was lost. In the end we could have easily equalised. We missed chances we should really have scored. We also conceded to an offside goal. There's things to consider but my biggest positive tbh is we created enough chances to beat the European champions in a fairly competitive match. Miki was a threat. Rashford looked dangerous. Lukaku had his moments. I see the start of a good side. Get matic fitter and get the passing a little slicker. There were still signs of needing more cohesion. Matic at times was deeper as a midfielder than I think a few players were used to which lead to a few misplaced passes. I'm not a fan of lindelof but I like the way he looks for a short ball rather than hoofing the ball away.
The way we played today i think we would dominate most premiership sides. We were far from where we want to be, but we were dangerous and created a lot of space and chances. Against lesser teams we would have won and probably won well.

All this money spent and we start Darmian Lingard and Smalling

Who else you think should play? I would just play Martial for Lingard.

Shaw- Injured
Bailly - Suspended

The only one I dissapointed is Pareira, thought he would get some game time considering this is not a very important game.

Despite the loss I take the positives, we look like we are heading in the right direction. We managed to make a fight of it despite being outclassed at times. No one went missing and all fought to the end. I think over a season this team will give a good account of itself. Especially as we only just got Matic and he already makes us look so much better and this will only improve as he and those around him develop a better understanding.

Maybe it is wishful think but I thought Lindelöf looks like he is slowly growing into his role - in pre-season he looked over awed.

Bring on Sunday! Give West Ham a good spanking and we all will be very happy!

I am not so down as some, as we were playing the best team in the world and gave them a goal.

I think Matic showed what he can bring for us, and Fellaini offered a threat in that position and worked his socks off.

OTOH, and looking at our weaknesses, although it is early days, I would agree with Pardew that Lindelof so far has been poor:
http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... lan-pardew

I also thought the analysis from Glen and Dickson on the highlights was accurate, as they noted Lukaku's lack of football intelligence when he ran on to the ball when clearly and massively offside, and that Marcus does not get his head up before shooting.

If anyone is clever at screen grabs, a post of Mourinho's face when he was in the background and Ronaldo was coming on would be a classic.

I have never seen him look like that.

It said:

'We are screwed. Game over'.
