First thought was a player that has played for Aston Villa (Bent, Walker, Benteke) connection, Manchester City (Sturridge, Toure, Viera, Adenauer) connection and someone who either played for Swansea or is currently playing at Stoke (Joe Allen) so went with the latter so Shay Given must be one ( Enqrique - Newcastle days)

Crouch - Stoke or Villa connection
Slyvinho - City
Pires - Villa

Will have a think about the second one
Sorry I never gave the answer to this question as well, Given is one

There is still a second one

Who did Robson manage then? Newcastle got knocked out in the groups and Barca weren't in the CL?

Maybe a Rangers manager is one of them. If there were English born managers managing in the CL knockouts you'd think they might have managed England but I can't remember any. Or some obscure manager born in England but a citizen of somewhere else as well.

Would have been Porto I guess, he won the league with them.

David O'Leary with Leeds would be another, as a trick since he played for Ireland, but he's actually English born.

'Arry took Spurs to the quarters.

So we're missing one.

Liverpool: Daniel Sturridge, Christian Benteke, Joe Allen, Jose Enrique

Arsenal: Robert Pires, Kolo Toure, Sylvinho, Patrick Vieira

Spurs: Kyle Walker, Emmanuel Adebayor, Darren Bent, Peter Crouch

2 players have played with all these players at club level, but never at those mentioned clubs. Who are they?
Stephen Ireland.

Does Howard Wilkinson / Leeds count?

Back in 1992/93 there WAS a knockout stage which was actually BEFORE the group stage. After the groups there was only the final.

I'm wondering if it's a caretaker manager situation.

I thought I had it, but it seems not.

Gerard Houllier had heart surgery back in 2001, and Phil Thompson took over for a large part of the season. Must be him I thought. But no, that's when we had the stupid second group stage, and therefore Houllier would have been back in charge by the time the quarters started. So unless the question actually concerns qualifying from the first group stage, and counts the second as knockout for the purposes of this, I don't think it's him.

Not Steve Clarke or Ray Wilkins. Just checked.

Roy Hodgson
Steve McClaren
