Stand up for Big Sam!

'Sunderland have called for a quick resolution after Sam Allardyce was interviewed for the England job at the home of FA vice-chairman David Gill on Tuesday.'

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/ ... ngland-job

Finally, maybe we will get the first England manager appointment I can get enthusiastic about since Terry Venables.

Unless they go for Klinsman to teach them formation diving, of course, with Ashley in as a certain starter.

Who else would like to see Sam get it?

Allardyce is a good manager. Has done a good job at numerous clubs. Won't take any shit.

It would be a decent appointment imo.

If anyone disagrees, who do you suggest instead?

If you get Big Sam, you might as well get Van Gaal. Same boring shit but with better records.

I just realised that you were referring to England, rather than me personally!
I am boring, but I try not to drone on about it all the time.....;-)

As for Sam and England, he is certainly a pragmatist, but has used a more expansive style when he has the players available to make that practical.

If the FA has to have an Englishman as manager then "Big Sam" is the man for the job. Personally I would like to see someone who the FA want in the job more than than the person wants the job. Similar to Bielsa at Lazio, he probably wouldn't last long but would never be boring.

Yes I did.

I honestly think Van Gaal is a good choice for England. You should start thinking more like Portugal than Germany.

Both LVG and Portugal provided the latter, not the former.

Well with the players England have right now, I don't think you have a choice if you want results.

I don't agree with managers from other countries. If players have to be from the country so should managers, considering managers are more important than any one player, unless you have a superstar.

Although the lines of nationality are getting so blurred anymore international competition will be a farce in the not so distant future.

I think England (any country really) needs a manager who will not be a puppet or punching bag for the regional FA's. I agree that the manager is more important than any player and needs to be able to install the type of football that they believe will win and if the FA (and the media) doesn't agree with their method they need to have the balls to say stop interfering or fire me.

I like the appointment of Big Sam, although I feel bad for Sunderland

I know its not the intentions of the FA admitting they need someone who can play to the strenghts of average players but it'll work out well for them

Lol, Sam Allardyce. On the basis of what? The FA seemingly only want to hire dinosaurs.

Actually, given the level England are at, I'd say someone like Allardyce is probably good for them.

The disaster will be if Big Sam ditch his normal approach because he got "better players".

 (bah)

The only thing you have to cheer about us narrowly beating Wales. Jog on.

Anyway, Allardyce is a dinosaur. Dunno why you brought up Wales. Trying to leach onto some success?

Isn't Drinkwater in the squad?

Jack Wheelchair is not though, which is great news.
