Guide to good message board etiquette

Wed Jan 09, 2008 1:41 pm

Dont use text talk:
Common abbreviations, imo, btw, are fine except... "soz but if u rite all ur msgs liek a fone txt msg ppl cnt toler8 readin it & u b ignord"
Dont type in all upper case:
IT IS CONSIDERED RUDE AS IT TELLS PEOPLE YOU ARE ANGRY AND SHOUTING! DO IT ALL THE TIME AND IT WILL GET DELETED.

Dont just post in massive text size:
It is annoying to read a whole message posted in big fonts

Far better to emphasis a word when it is needed - it stands out more. Contrary to some belief:, messages that appear in big fonts all the time actually get read less and are paid less attention than to a message formatted and presented properly.

Do use smileys:
Especially when having fun or being sarcastic. Unlike a face-to-face conversation, emotions and facial expressions can not be read in words so it is important to let someone know the mood in which you write something. Got that, silly-billys? ;) :P If you jest with people without an emotion smiley it can be construed the wrong way and lead to arguments and bad feeling.
