No, we can wait so that when an expensive signing like a Veron, Di maria or Falcao leave after a year or two, having scored 20 odd goals, we can record them into folklore

They never had the start Lukaku has had and never looked this good. Players like Ruud, Cole (and the like) did and we know where they ended up
Cole started badly at United. He couldn't hit a barn door

Did Lukaku not equal Coles record as the only United player to score seven goals in his first seven Premier League appearances for the Red Devils.

He was a January signing. He did well from January to the end of the season but his first full season he didnt do well

But thats my point.. he started well, his quality was there and even when he went through a dry patch - he quality was shown in the beginning and came through again

Thats my argument with Colin..why wait till 250 goals when we can see already what he is about. Playing against a good team or waiting for 250 is a moot point

I'm sure the 250 goal quote was slightly tongue in cheek.

But has he not proven you wrong on all 3 of your points during his start? How would a better organized team refute the fact that his first touch has been good, he has linked up play both inside and outside the box and has loads of pace?
A better organised team would give him less time and space, so would punish poor first touch.

Yes but he hasnt shown that predicted poor first touch everyone was talking about. Hence I'm saying, its not like the poor teams weren't punishing his poor first touch and now we will see what happens against a big team

Same goes for the other points..Playing a big team doesn't take away his pace

I'm gonna go against the grain and say I think his first touch hasn't been great. There's been a few half chances he has squandered due to a bad first touch. Against bigger teams it's those half chances he needs to turn into actual chances. Ruud was the master of that

Is that because he's had the time and space though?

I agree with Steve on this one, at time Lukaku's first touch does leave something to be desired, While we are playing fast break football there is usually enough time and space to recover from any sloppiness but even against the teams we have played when they pack the midfield and make it difficult to get the ball through rapidly we struggled and that's when even the slightest mistake is taken advantage of.
I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Football. Bloody hell.

Scored off the bench for Belgium. He's white hot at the moment. A couple at Anfield will shut the doubters up in sure

I think Steve is referring to those who criticize him for now showing up in big games or making enough of an impact. Liverpool away is probably our toughest fixture of the season every year, so I don't think its completely fair to judge him based on that anyway. He had no support or service all game.
“Bill, how would you like to be manager of the best team in the country?”
And Shankly said: “Why? Is Matt Busby packing it in?”
