Ajax - United, great final. I think we all would have wanted it to take place in the Champions League but that's not too realistic for Ajax anyway.

For Ajax this would be a trophy far more valuable than the league title (which Feyenoord won this year), Amsterdam and the rest of the country are all longing for this to happen. It's very different for United and their fans, the Premier League is more important and winning the Europa League is only valuable for what it means in terms of playing Champions League next season.

I think two styles will clash and I know many united fans hate the fact that they are the defending side in this comparison.
Ajax have had a great 5 years with Frank de Boer in charge but the last two seasons the football wasn't as attractive and offensive as we like to see, they tried, but it somehow didn't work anymore. Peter Bosz took over, which was a controversial choice because he has a history with Feyenoord. The first two months were very bad, got knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers, lost a couple of games in the Eredivisie and he fell out with a few (former) key players. But slowly the team went on to play better and better, a few young guys got a chance in some Dutch cup games and in the Europa league group stage and presented themselves as potential first team players (especially CB Mathijs de Ligt and RW Justin Kluivert). When all of this came together in the second half of the season, Ajax started playing some really good football, the best I've seen them play in the last 10 years. The home games vs Copenhagen, Feyenoord, Schalke and Lyon were all very impressive, if they can reach that level in the final they will beat United easily. Ajax plays very offensive football and have been exposed defensively for that on a number of occasions (lyon and schalke away) but on a good day they will overrun the opponent. Ajax creates a lot of chances but our wingers lack efficiency in goalscoring. The first leg vs Lyon was 4-1 but could have been 9-4 as well.

United on the other hand is the big rich club who have Mourinho as their manager and play a negative sort of football. I hope for the sake of football around the world that Ajax will win this. I'd say united is the favourite to win it though, a few very good individuals and a manager who knows how to win a final. If Ajax wins, it will be done in the spirit of Johan Cruyff with mainly home-grown talent and very attractive to watch. Most finals turn out to be a bit dissapointing but I will be in the stadium in Stockholm to cheer on the Ajax lads, win or lose, they've entertained us a lot this year and deserve our support.

Ajax line-up, probably:

Onana
Veltman - Sanchez - de Ligt - Riedewald
Schone (could be van de Beek)
Klaassen - Ziyech
Traore - Dolberg - Younes

We'll probably line up like this

-------------------Romero---------------------
Valencia-------Smalling-----Blind-------Darmian
------------Herrera---Fellaini----Pogba-------------
---Lingard--------Rashford-------------MickyT----

Personally I wouldn't start Lingard but don't think he'll start Martial. Don't know much about Ajax bar they are young and fast - experience could be key here.

Nice write up Oranje.

Ajax v Manchester United, now that's a proper European final. As you say, we'll likely be the defensive team (Operation hang on to a 1-0 lead and concede at the death anyway will likely be in effect). In this case, it might be warranted though, because I'm not confident in our defence.

Fellaini is apparently a slight doubt with a hammy, but Smalling should be available. If they both are fit, I can see your line up being the one Giants. Personally, given the defensive worries, I'd play Carrick in a deeper lying role, almost as a sweeper. I wouldn't play Lingard, but he's almost certain to start.

This is defiantly the type of game where we may have too many options; DeGea vs Romeo, picking any two from Lindgard, Martial, Mata, or MickyT, Jones or Smalling, Carrick or Fellaini. Sometimes it is better not to have choices.
Romeo
Valencia. Jones. Blind Darmian
Herrera
Fellaini. Pogba
Lindgard Rashford. MickyT
If we are hanging on to the lead Carrick and/or Tuanzede to replace Fellaini.
If we are chasing a goal then Martial on for Fellaini.
If Mike Smalling is available instead of Chris I would give him the nob.
I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Football. Bloody hell.

I really fear for us in this match. We've shown when we really need to push on and win we've stalled. We've choked a bit at big times this season. We had opportunities to press on after big wins and just fallen apart. We did our best to get a poor Celta Vigo side into the final. All our eggs are in this basket and our season and next season virtually hang in the balance of this one game.
On the other hand Ajax have already qualified for Europe next season. This is a nice extra and they have a lot of young players who will just want to go out and have a go. I feel we must play like we did at home to Chelsea. Press high and don't let them get their game going. The one thing that will count in our favour is big game experience. Mourinho is a winner in big games. He finds a way, and a lot of our team have experience of winning trophies and big occasions compared to Ajax. We must get this right though or we could really struggle for another 12 months. Champions league football is imperitave to us. We can't go through this competition again, it's virtually derailed our season

Getting nervous for the game already - This is massive for us going forward.

Any predictions?

Im hoping that our experience will see us through but it'll be tight. 1-0

1:1 with win in the overtime. Goals by MhickiT and Lingard in OT (even I dont like him at all). Full focus is needed, we must avoid mistakes in back (which is impossible). Game of the season for us. My wisdom tooth was taken away today, so hope this was the last painful experience today. Myself, my GF and our 4 months old daughter, all preparing with the club shirts, beer chilled... Lets enjoy a good game!
