Champions League draw

Fri Mar 15, 2019 1:31 pm

TUESDAY 9TH APRIL
• Ajax vs Juventus
• Liverpool vs FC Porto
• Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City
WEDNESDAY 10TH APRIL
• Manchester United vs Barcelona

TUESDAY 16TH APRIL
• Barcelona vs Manchester United
• FC Porto vs Liverpool
• Juventus vs Ajax
• Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

I know that we have a history for doing things the hard way, but really, this is getting borderline ridiculous. I guess it boils down to: if you are going to be the best you have to beat the best.

If we get a draw in the first leg, I say give Ole the job.

I cannot imagine Ole not having the job already. I would have liked to have the second leg at Old Trafford but it conflicts with City games caused our games reversed.

Semi-finals
Tottenham/Manchester City v Ajax/Juventus
Barcelona/Manchester United v Liverpool/Porto

After beating Barcelona we would likely face Liverpool in the semi's and then after beating LFC, City in the final.

After that we can address; global warming, world hunger and peace throughout the universe. 🤣

This is the worst possible draw. Barca they outplayed us in the last two UCL finals.

But the last time we won the UCL Scholesy scored a wonder goal.

This draw was fixed

On the positives if we get past them then we know that they are the benchmark.

So then we could actually win this. Let's focus on getting the squad fit to the standard of match fitness.

We can get at there defense coz if there is a weakness it's there. The problem is we need to get spells of possession and take our chances.

We beat PSG so we can do it but we have to play out of our skins.

I did pick Barca to win the UCL this season in the beginning of the season. Ole will have a real challenge on his hand.

Matic and Co need to get back to match fitness.

If I were a suspicious person, and I am a suspicious person, I might believe that the draw was setup to have the best chance of LFC vs City as a final. Let's face it; Barca or LFC or United all are very attractive games for the UEFA.

Over 2 legs we have a chance. But it's not going to be easy. We beat Juve, PSG so now we face Barca.

On that basis I'd say is possible.

Barca have the skill to beat the press against any team. But it's not about who is better it's about who wants it more.

If Shaw can put Messi in his pocket then half the battle is won.

Or simply Ronaldo v Messi in a UCL final at last.

If it is fixed then the more likely final UEFA would want is Barca v Juve, that would draw a bigger audience for advertising revenue than any other combination their worst nitmare would be Spuds v Liverfools.

At this stage there are no easy draws, I would have fancied our chances better against Spuds or Porto though.

If an English team gets to the final, which is to be played in Madrid i can see the Spanish holding them up for hours in customs because of the Brexit/Gibraltar thing

In fairness we beat Juve, PSG, now Barca. We got tough away draws in the FA Cup.

Beat the big guns in the knockout stages and get the easy final. Fair to say we there on merit in both cups.

Look let's take away this week. If our players get back to full match fitness then we can do it.

On paper we were the better team against Wolves but they just wanted it more on the field.

FA Cup or UCL. I mean 2 less games. Football is a funny thing the ball is round.

I assume that Goku believes the shitty city are being given the Champions league a coz they are shitty

Well, we cannot lose to Barcelona, a coz they are called asses in Catelonian and devils always beat asses a coz they do big poo's

As Arnold Palmer once said "The more i practice the luckier i get"
This surely cannot be applied to shiity can it ?
Well no more than our mighty battle to finish 4th and our even mightier battle to finish less than 0 points(7 fornicating games!!) behind them

Not sure how I feel about Ole getting it. I have my doubts let's just say.
My general point would be that Barcelona will walk all over us. It's a low bar. If he gets a draw, he should a 1 year extension.

Not really sure how I feel about one year contracts, I know Sir Alex went for a good many years on a year-by-year contract but for a new manager that could cause some very uncomfortable interactions with players.

Ole may love United, but he is not there to be walked over, and I doubt that he would allow it.

He is not now the manager of Molde, or the ex manager of Cardiff, but someone who has managed United to some success and has a real perceived value as a manager.

If we don't want him, I think there are plenty that will, maybe not top draw clubs, but up and coming clubs of the second rank or tired clubs of the first.

It might not be wise to take him for granted.

Re: Champions League draw

I know he is one of ours, but there is an incredibly emotional reaction to all this that does not reflect the reality. I will take Pochettino, who also has not won anything, but has been in many more testing situations to Ole at this point. Ole is a Mourinho carthasis, but it all dies down and the players will have expressed their demons and then what? He has done incredibly well I will say but I find it hard to see how this board will back him in the market for players he chooses. i think likely they will foist players on him absent any director of football.

It reminds me of Dimatteo, taking over from I believe Avram Grant at Chelsea and going on to win the UCL. He got fired and I don't know for what reason but I think they made the right choice.
What Manutd is losing and very quickly is the identity of winning trophies and staying relevant in their pursuit. Fancy and attractive football is good but I believe this should be the icing on the cake. Like I said, we are turning into Arsenal's Wenger. Don't want to comment on Emery's since he is fresh in.
